Letter from Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer, Rosh Yeshiva of Etz Chaim and author of Even HaEzel. [1940].
[1] letterhead. 20.5x20 cm. Recommendation letter for Rabbi Shmuel Eliezri regarding his suitability to serve as rabbi of a large, prominent community. All in his hand, with his signature and stamp.
Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer (1870-1953) was a disciple of the Netziv and Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik in Volozhin. He was Rosh Yeshiva of Slobodka. In 1897, he became Rosh Yeshiva in Slutzk and in 1903, rabbi of the city. In 1925, he became Rosh Yeshiva of Etz Chaim in Jerusalem, a position he maintained until his death.
