A collection of six rare books, printed in Amsterdam after the Nazi occupation - including books for children
1-2. Two volumes of the journal 'Menora', the 1940 and 1941 volumes
3. Rosj Hasjanah en Jom Kippoer, articles in honor of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, in preparation for the year 1940. The days of World War II, when all the Jews of the world are in fear and terror. Amsterdam, 1940
4. Stories for beginners, compiled and explained by Avraham de Jung. Includes illustrations by Brockman. Foreword by the editor A. De Jong, Av 1941.
Among other things, he says: "Until the beginning of the war, we received the necessary books from Israel, from America, and from the Diaspora, and now, since all the gates are closed, the Hebrew books have run out of the market... to fill this deficiency... a book of exercises was published during this year. The book is full of materials and works, poems and jokes, with a clear Zionist orientation, with the goal being to present to the children of the Jewish communities in the Netherlands the pioneer and urban identity of the Land of Israel.
5. Perozdor. Booklet for learning to read Hebrew, by Avraham de Jung. Printed during the war, in Amsterdam, 1941.
The children who used this booklet went through the horrors of the Holocaust.
6. List of words - a Hebrew-Dutch dictionary, for the works and stories included in the book 'Stories for Beginners' (above section A). Without cover (we don't know if there was one originally). 38 p. We found no mention of this booklet in the National Library's catalog, and it is not even mentioned in the editor's introduction to the aforementioned book! Have we discovered another book he published, as a sequel to 'Stories for Beginners'? Perhaps this is the reason there is no cover for this booklet, because the Nazis had already entered and looted the printing house!
The holocaust of the Dutch Jews is the holocaust that happened to the Jews of the Netherlands, which began with the occupation of the Netherlands by Nazi Germany in May 1940, and ended with the liberation of the Netherlands in May 1945, with the surrender of Nazi Germany. Of the approximately 140,000 Jews who lived in the Netherlands during its occupation, it is estimated that over 75% of the Dutch Jews, or over 105,000 Jews, were murdered in the Holocaust.
Good general condition. Minor blemishes and slight wear.
