Mashal HaKadmoni with 60 illustrations!

Rare Edition.
Frankfurt am Main, 1764
*

The sefer ‘Mashal Hakadmoni’ translated to Yiddish.

‘Mashal HaKadmoni’ is a mussar sefer about good character traits and moral conduct, presented in the form of parables and fables. It was authored by Rabbi Yitzchak Ibn Sahula, one of the Sephardic sages of the 13th century.

Throughout the sefer there are over 60 beautiful woodcuts!

Already during the incunabula period, the sefer was printed with illustrations and is considered the first Hebrew sefer to be printed with illustrations.

This edition is extremely rare. The National Library holds an incomplete copy. To the best of Zaidy’s research, this item has never been offered at auction before.

Frankfurt am Main, 1764. Yiddish. Page Count: 72 leaves. Size: 17.5 cm, varying margin sizes. Condition: Fair-good, minor restorations to first pages. Signs of age, wear and creases at the margins of some leaves. Adhesion to title page. New binding.

Provenance: William Gross Collection, Tel Aviv.
