Teshuvah by Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Horowitz
Av Beis Din of Stanislav
*

Teshuvah, handwritten by Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Horowitz, Av Beis Din of Stanislav and author of ‘Meah Shearim’. Rabbi Yitzchak was the son of the famous Bar Levai, and the father of the Harei Besamim.

The long letter, consisting of four sides, contains a response to comments on his sefer ‘Meah Shearim’. It is unsigned.

To the best of Zaidy’s knowledge, this letter has never been published.

It was sent to the Rav of Radautz in Bukovina, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Ish Horowitz, a descendant of Rabbi Naftali of Ropshitz and the Shla"h, among the great Rabbanim in Romania.

Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Horowitz, Rav of Stanislav (1828-1904), was a son of the Gaon, author of ‘Bar Levai’. He was friends with the great Rabbanim of his generation and would travel to the Sar Shalom of Belz and Rabbi Chaim of Sanz who were very fond of him. He was known as sharp and erudite, an exceptional darshan and gifted ba'al tefillah. Among his sefarim are ‘Shu"t Toldos Yitzchak’ (Lemberg 1866) and ‘Meah Shearim’ (ibid 1886).

Page Count: 2 large leaves (4 written sides), unsigned. Size: 21 x 34 cm. Condition: Good; slight tears.

At the top of the leaf the author wrote: "This is what I added after the printing of my sefer Meah Shearim."
