Velour Kippah which Belonged to the Admo"r, the Author of 'Berach Moshe' of Satmar

Velour kippah worn for many years by the Admo"r, the author of Berach Moshe of Satmar. Unlike the common velour kippahs, which are lined with a black fabric, this kippah of the Admo"r's - possibly because it was custom-made - is lined with a light colored fabric.

Books and oral tradition relate the well-known fact that all items which belonged to tzaddikim are a tried and true segulah. Most of all, a kippah - for a kippah is designated to increase fear of Heav-n, as it says in the gemara: "כסי ראשך כי היכא דתיהוי עלך אימתא דשמיא" ["Cover your head so that you will have fear of Heav-n"]. This is also the reason for the adornment of covering a baby's head with a tzaddik's kippah during his ritual circumcision. There are those who add that the root of the word yarmulkah ['ירמולקה'] is an abbreviation for fear of G-d ['ירא מאלו-ה']. Another virtue of a tzaddik's kippah is that he wears it throughout the entire day without a break, including during the most sublime and poignant moments.

The Admo"r Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum of Satmar [1914-2006] was born in Sighet, Romania, to his father, the author of Atzei Chaim of Sighet. On his mother's side, he was a great-grandson of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz and a descendant of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Rabbi Moshe was a disciple of his great uncle, the Admo"r Rabbi Yoelish of Satmar. He served as Av Beit Din in Hungary - in Senta and in Sighet. During the Holocaust, he was sent to Auschwitz with his entire family, and his wife and three children were murdered there. After the Holocaust, he immigrated to the United States. After the Admo"r of Satmar's passing (without children among the living), Rabbi Moshe was appointed his heir and successor - he was crowned the respected leader of Satmar Chassidim, and he brought the Chassidut to its peak. He also served as the president of the Edah Charedit in the Land of Israel.

Diameter: 18 cm; overall very fine condition. Usage and sweat marks.

Signed confirmation included with a picture of the kippah attesting that this kippah belonged to the Admo"r of Satmar and that he wore it over a lengthy period.
