"I Blessed [you] and all that is [yours] with Good, Sweet New Year, Materially and Spiritually." Letter to the Hidden Tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Woltoch, Signed by the Admo"r of Lubavitch
The letter was sent during the days of selichot (Elul 1954), to the hidden tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Woltoch. The Rebbe blesses him profusely: "Towards the new year approaching us and the entire Jewish people, I hereby express my blessing to [you] and all that is [yours], a blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good, sweet year materially and spiritually. With blessings."
The Rebbe also refers in his letter to "18 Elul, birthday of the two great luminaries, the Besh"t and the Alter Rebbe."
The Admo"r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson [1902-1994] was the seventh leader in the dynasty of Admo"rs of Lubavitch. He served as Admo"r from 1951 until his passing. He was a tremendous genius in all realms of Torah, and his net was - and still is - cast across the entire world.
The hidden tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Woltoch [d. Iyar 1983] 'the holy street sweeper' was counted among the group of hidden tzaddikim who frequented 'the holy shoemaker,' Rabbi Moshe Ya'akov Ribikov. The group included Rabbi Leon Patilon, Rabbi Avraham Fisch and Rabbi Mendel of Bnei Brak. He would write "proofread" on each kabbalistic work he completed, and would sign "Yosef Woltroch, grandson of the maggid of Zlotshov." He was accustomed to prostrate himself at graves of tzaddikim and was privileged to wondrous revelations and revelations of the souls of the tzaddikim. All his conduct was per instruction of the Admo"r Rabbi Shlomke of Zhvill. For his livelihood, Rabbi Yosef worked as a street sweeper in Tel Aviv.
