Imrei Shefer. Rabbi Naftali Ashkenazi of Safed. Venice, 1601. First edition, printed during the author's lifetime

Imrei Shefer. Sermons on the Weekly Torah Portions, Festivals, Joyous Occasions, and Eulogies, by Rabbi Naftali Ashkenazi of Safed. Venice, 1601. First edition.

In addition to important discourses, the book contains eulogies for Rabbi Elazar Azkari, author of *Sefer Haredim*, Rabbi Yaakov Beirav (the second), and Rabbi Yaakov Abulafia.
In several places, the author quotes teachings from the kabbalists of Safed, including the Ari Z"L, the Alshich HaKadosh, and others.
Rabbi Naftali Ashkenazi was a scholar and kabbalist in Safed during the generation of Rabbi Yosef Karo (*Beit Yosef*), the Ari, and his disciple Rabbi Chaim Vital. Toward the end of his life, he traveled to Venice, where he printed this book, and passed away there in 1602.
On the back of the title page, an old owner's inscription reads: "This book belongs to Rabbi Mordechai Nachman, may he be protected."
208 leaves, 19 cm.
Condition: Good-Moderate. Wormholes mainly in the white margins. Light stains. Worn binding.
