Personal Stamp of the Gaon Yisrael, Rabbi Itzeleh of Volozhin! Impressive Collection of [32] Jewish Brass Stamps. 17th-19th Century

Impressive collection of approximately 32 antique brass stamps from Europe carefully collected over many decades. The vast majority belonged to prominent personalities. A few are from kashrut organizations, batei dinim, etc. We were unable to decipher the owners of most of the stamps; they may have belonged to very prominent rabbis. Europe, 17th-19th centuries,

We have [apparently] been able to decipher some of the stamps, such as

  • The gaon Yisrael Rabbeinu Itzeleh of Volozhin
  • Rabbi Yosef of Lomza, author of Kerem Chemed, one of the rashei yeshivah of Volozhin
  • The gaon Rabbi Avraham b"r Zechariah Mendel of Minsk, a disciple of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, author of Beit Avraham al Pirkei Avot
  • Rabbi Aryeh Leib son of Yitzchak ztz"l, a prominent member of the community, stamped on writings related to Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin.

This group of stamps likely came from the same region - Volozhin.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a partial list of the stamps.

Most of the stamps are in fine condition; some have signs of corrosion.
