Shalom Moskowitz ("Der Zeigermacher") - [4] Unique Works - Akeidat Yitzchak and Aharon Kohen Gadol
Four modular works, somewhat like railcars, made by renowned artist Shalom Moskowitz of Safed, known by the nickname "Der Zeigermacher" (the watchmaker).
[4] works made of several pieces of sawn wood, painted on both sides, occasionally with slight differences. The figures are glued standing to the surfaces. The surface itself is nailed to a piece of wood, with wheels stuck to the sides.
Three of the works deal with Akeidat Yitzchak and the other one depicts the figure of Aharon Kohen Gadol in the Beit HaMikdash.
- Avraham Avinu binding Yitzchak Avinu to the altar, with an angel hovering over the shrub. Height: 15.5 cm. Length: 34 cm; Width: 10.5 cm.
- Avraham's young men waiting with the donkey ("Sit here with the donkey"). Height: 17 cm. Length: 37 cm; Width: 10 cm.
- Avraham holding a vessel containing fire. Behind him is Yitzchak, with the wood for the sacrifice on his back. Height: 15.5 cm. Length: 19 cm; Width: 9.5 cm.
- Aharon HaKohen lighting the Menorat HaMikdash, while dressed in the garb of the kohen gadol. Height: 21 cm. Length: 30.5 cm; Width: 10.5 cm.
Provenance: Private collector, acquired from a gallery about thirty years ago. According to the collector, these works were made by the artist for his grandchildren, and they are one-of-a-kind.
Overall fine condition. Several places with slight lack (one of the angel's wings, the angel's hand; the head of one of Avraham's youths; and more.) One wheel is broken. Work #2 (Avraham's young men) is not level. Two pieces of the figures are detached from the surface. Additional light blemishes.
