The Arrival of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik in America, and his Rabbinate in Boston - Letter from his Father, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Soloveitchik, Son of Rabbi Chaim of Brisk

"I received a telegram from the sons of the gaon, shlit"a, [stating] that he will arrive in the country by boat on Monday of parashat Shoftim"

Historic letter handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Soloveitchik, av beit din of Raseiniai, Choslovitz and Antopol, son of the gaon hageonim, Rabbeinu Chaim HaLevi of Brisk. New York, 1931.

In his letter, the gaon Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Soloveitchik informs the gaon Rabbi Eliezer Silver about the arrival of his son, Rabbi Yosef Dov, to the shores of the United States. Later on in the letter, he writes, "Regarding Boston, we have not yet had news" - this is referring to arranging a rabbinic position in Boston for his son, the gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov, who is scheduled to arrive in the United States soon.

The father, the gaon Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Soloveitchik, immigrated to the United States in 1931, but the son, the gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov, stayed behind in Europe and only joined him a year later.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of the gaon Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Soloveitchik and the gaon Rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik [known as "The Gri"d"].
