Letter from the "Chazzans' Rabbi" Rabbi Zeidel Rovner, Yossele Rosenblatt's Rabbi

Interesting historic letter handwritten by the renowned chazzan, Rabbi Zeidel Rovner, rabbi of the leading cantors of his generation, and prayer leader for the high holidays for the Makarev rebbe and the Ahavat Yisrael of Vizhnitz. Many of his compositions are sung to this day among Vizhnitz Chassidim, as well as in other Chassidic courts. Brooklyn, New York, 1923. We are unaware of any other letters from him ever offered at auction.

The letter was sent to one of Cantor Rovner's friends, who was unable to gain entrance into one of his concerts, and he blamed Rabbi Zeidel himself. Cantor Rovner explains in his letter to the addressee that he is obviously not connected to his friend's being denied entry, with proof for this being that he himself sent concert tickets to him and his wife. Rovner informs him about the next concert, one like none other ever performed, and asks him to arrive early to get a seat worthy of his stature. (Seats were not assigned in advance; people arrived and chose seats as they saw fit.)

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the chazzan, Shmuel Margovsky, known by his nickname, "Zeidel Rovner."
