Abarbanel's Commentary, First Edition. Sabbioneta, 1551. Pedigree Copy

First Hebrew book printed in Sabbioneta

Sefer Merkavat HaMishnah - commentary by Rabbi Don Yitzchak Abarbanel to Sefer Devarim. Sabbioneta, 1551. First edition of the Abarbanel's commentary. Without the index leaves.

First Hebrew book printed in Sabbioneta [Vinograd, Sabbioneta no. 1]. As appears on the title page "The first of our labor ..."

This is the commentary on Chumash Devarim, the commentary on the other chumashim was only printed decades later, in Venice, 1579.

Especially distinguished copy that belonged to a series of prominent rabbis and lay leaders for close to the past half millennium (!) since it was printed, and in especially rare form, they left very beautiful and lengthy inscriptions. Following are some of the inscriptions: "I bought this sefer from the heirs of Rabbi Berman Segel of Hayna, the youth Chaim [son of] Rabbi David Frankfurt"; very beautiful and lengthy dedication to the bridegroom Reuven ben Rabbi Shmuel Breslau of Berlin [apparently a parnass of the Berlin community, son of Rabbi Benedit, av beit din of Breslau] from Yakov HaKohen of Lissa [Apparently the father of Rabbi Yehudah b"r Jakub HaKohen, dayan  in Lissa and author of Mar'eh Kohen (Frankfurt am Main, 1776) and Minchat Kohen (Prague, 1788)]; "Stamp of Aryeh Leibush Abramson"; the Mahara"m Shapira's owners' stamps [av beit din of Lublin and progenitor of Daf HaYomi] and more.

Vinograd, Sabbioneta no. 1.

132 leaf (out of 145), lacking the index leaves. 28 cm. High-quality paper.

Fine-very fine condition. Aging stains. New binding.
