Mikra'ot Gedolot. Venice, 1518. First Edition of Mikra'ot Gedolot

Pair of impressive volumes from the first edition of mikra'ot gedolot printed in Bomberg's press in Venice - Nevi'im Rishonim and Nevi'im Acharonim. Venice, 1518. Rare condition. Two elegant leather bindings.

* [Part II]: Nevi'im Rishonim, with the Targum and the Rada"k's commentary. "Printed with careful supervision in Venice in Duke Leonardo Lorindo's 16th year, by Daniel Bomberg Ish Palandria."

Each sefer is divided into chapters numbered with Hebrew letters, without indication of the verse numbers.

In this early edition, there was still not a consensus regarding the division of Sifrei Shmuel and Melachim into two parts. The division of Sefer Shmuel into two is indicated in a comment: "Foreigners begin the second part of Sefer Shmuel here, and it is the second Melachim for them." In the division of Sefer Melachim: "Foreigners begin the fourth part of Sefer Melachim here."

[119] leaf. There are copies with a blank leaf at the end. 34 cm.

* [Part III]: Nevi'im Acharonim with the Targum and the Rada"k's commentary. "Printed with careful supervision in Venice in Duke Leonardo Lorindo's 16th year, by Daniel Bomberg Ish Palandria."

Each sefer is divided into chapters numbered with Hebrew letters, without indication of the verse numbers.

[180] leaf. 34 cm.

This is the first edition of mikra'ot gedolot for Tana"ch, the edition that set the foundation (with some requested changes - the addition of commentaries that were written later on) for printing mikra'ot gedolot for 500 years, to this day.
