First Edition of the Talmud: The Ro"sh's commentary, Bomberg Press. Venice, 1522

First edition of the Ro"sh's commentary!

44th volume of the first Sh"as in the world!!

Sefer Rabbeinu Asher al HaHalachot Ketanot by the leading sage of Ashkenaz and Sepharad, Rabbeinu Asher ben Yechiel, known as the Ro"sh, one of the leading commentators on the Talmud and poskim. Venice, Bomberg Press, 1522. Rare copy in terms of its completeness, including the blank leaf at the end which is lacking in many copies.

First edition of the Ro"sh's work on the Halachot Ketanot, which was apparently composed surrounding the words of the Ri"f. This work was printed as part of the renowned Talmud printed by Bomberg in Venice, but it was printed as a work in its own right. In Mif'al HaBibliographiah HaIvri, it is recorded as the 44th volume of the first Sha"s ever printed. (Refer to A. M. Haberman, HaMadpis Daniel Bombergo no. 46 and no. 61).

As such, this is not only the first edition of the Ro"sh's commentary, it is also the concluding volume of the historic first edition of Talmud Bavli, brought to print for the first time ever and published by the printer,  Bomberg. This publication established the leaf format [צורת הדף] for the Talmud for generations, and to a large extent, also the text for later publications of the Talmud. (Refer to "Ma'amar al Hadpasat HaTalmud" by Rabbi Raphael Nathan Nota Rabinowitz, Jerusalem, 1952).

9 [should be: 15], [1] blank leaf. 34 cm. Handwritten gloss on page 14b.

Fine condition. The sefer's leaves have been professionally restored. New semi-leather binding with marbleized paper.
