Complete Ledger Handwritten by Rabbi Yosef Tzvi HaLevi, Av Beit Din of Jaffa - List of Hechsherim for Land of Israel Wines

Complete ledger with close to 240[!] leaves handwritten by the gaon Rabbi Yosef Tzvi HaLevi, av beit din of Jaffa. Written 1911-1929.

The ledger comprises a list of importers from dozens[!!] of countries around the world, and the types of wines that were ordered from the Land of Israel. Part of the writer's role was to supervise the kashrut of the wines. He therefore noted in this dedicated ledger all the orders to which he gave a hechsher for follow-up and to prevent errors.

Alongside various orders are interesting notes, such as, "This line is not kosher, because a lot of wine was taken in Ramleh by an unknown person."

The orders cover almost the entire world, from Antwerp and Mainz, London and Brussels, on to New York and Montreal, through Melbourne, Calcutta, Aleppo and Damascus. The Carmel winery stands out, with large orders for branches across the Land of Israel and representatives around the world. Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek hospital also ordered several barrels.

Several slips of paper related to Rabbi Yosef Tzvi HaLevi are placed inside the ledger.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Yosef Tzvi HaLevi, av beit din of Jaffa.
