Gevurat Ari. First Edition. Published by the Chafetz Chaim. With the"Proofread" Inscription
Gevurat Ari on Tractates Yoma and Makkot (with separate title pages), by the gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib, av beit din of Metz, author of Sha'agat Aryeh. Pietrkov, 1906.
First edition, published by the rabbi of the entire Jewish people, the Chafetz Chaim. He also wrote something of an introduction at the beginning of the book, "A word from the publisher."
The thrilling word "Mugah" ("proofread") appears twice on the flyleaf - the Chafetz Chaim would write this on his books himself. As is known, the Chafetz Chaim was particular to check every book he would put up for sale, out of concern that he could inadvertently transgress the prohibition of theft and deception. Each book examined would be inscribed by him with the word "Mugah." The Chafetz Chaim would generally be particular to write this notation himself, out of concern that others might write it without sufficient examination. Many of these notations have disappeared over the years due to the books being rebound.
