Shoneh Halachot. Two Parts. Amsterdam, 1762. Only Edition

Shoneh Halachot - commentary on Halachot Gedolot [with the text] by Rabbi Shlomo Shalem ztz"l, av beit din of Amsterdam. Parts I and II are bound together with separate title pages. Amsterdam, 1762. First and only edition.

Part I was printed at two different presses in Amsterdam. The first part was printed by Leib Zussmans, and the second (from leaf 61) by Johannes Jansen. At the end of Part I, the second printer boasts "The readers' eyes will immediately discern the difference in the letters and the refined printing in the above halachahs (that is, from leaf 61), compared to the rest of what was printed (the first part of the book)."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Shlomo Shalem.

[8], 74; [4], 82 leaf. Individual copies have an additional leaf added to Part II, including revised printing of one of the leaves in the introduction to Part I. This leaf, (not present in this copy, ) is very rare and apparently only added to a few copies. By comparison with the letters of the rare leaf, it appears that it was printed by the first printer - Leib Zussmans. It is therefore clear why it was just added to a few copies - most of the copies were already at the second printers, where the first printer clearly had no access.

31 cm. High-quality paper. Vinograd, Amsterdam, 1814-15.

Fine condition. Signatures. Minimal aging stains. Simple binding.
