Likkutei Halachot LaChafetz Chaim. [4] Volumes. With the Exciting Inscription "Mugah"
Set of books of halachic compilations by the rabbi of the entire Jewish people, Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen, author of Chafetz Chaim. Four volumes in their original bindings. Pietrkov, c. 1900s-1920s (the printing dates are approximate and differ from tractate to tractate).
In three of the four volumes, the exciting notation "Mugah" appears. The Chafetz Chaim would write this on his books, generally in his own hand. Specifications of these volumes:
* Likkutei Halachot al Masechtot: Tamid, Temurah, Kritut, Bechorot, Erchin, Me'ilah. Pietrkov, 1909. Separate title pages for some tractates.
* Likkutei Halachot al Masechtot: Zvachim, Menachot, Chulin. Pietrkov, 1913. Separate title pages. The notation "Mugah" appears on the flyleaf.
* Likkutei Halachot al Masechtot: Pesachim-Chagigah, Pesachim-Bava-Kamma, Rosh HaShanah, Yoma, Sukkah and Ta'anit, Sanhedrin, Shevuot, Makkot, Horiyot, Chulin. Pietrkov, 1915. Separate title pages for some of the tractates. The notation "Mugah" appears on the flyleaf.
* Likkutei Halachot al Masechtot: Kritut, Bechorot, Erchin, Nazir, Sotah, Niddah, Pietrkov, 1928. Separate title pages for several tractates. The notation "Mugah" appears on the flyleaf.
As stated, on the flyleaves of three of the volumes is the exciting inscription "Mugah" ("proofread"). The Chafetz Chaim would write this on his books himself. As is known, the Chafetz Chaim would sell his books personally, and would be particular to check every book he put up for sale, out of concern that he could inadvertently transgress the prohibition of theft and deception. Each book examined by him would be inscribed by him with the word "Mugah." The Chafetz Chaim would generally be particular to write this notation himself, out of concern that others might write it without sufficient examination. Many of these notations have disappeared over the years due to the books being rebound.
Sefer Likkutei Halachot was authored by the Chafetz Chaim on the Talmudic tractates on which the Ri"f did not write his commentary (Seder Kadshim, and some of Seder Nezikin and Seder Moed). The Chafetz Chaim wrote these books on the same format as the Ri"f's commentary.
Overall fine condition. Brittle paper.
