Tehilim. With Commentary by the Rada”k and Rabbi Josef Hayoun. Saloniki,1522
A book of Tehilim [Psalms[ with commentary by Rabbi David Kimchi (Rada”k) and Rabbi Josef Hayoun. Saloniki, 1522. First edition of the commentary by Rabbi Josef Hayoun.
The Tehilim are printed in the center of the page in large letters with vowels surrounded by two commentaries.
Incomplete, begins on page 33 until page 209 and continues for 3 pages, missing the last six pages (does not include Mishlei [Proverbs]). In total, about 40 out of 219 pages are missing. 28 cm.
Rabbi Josef Hayoun was a leader of Portuguese Jewry. On the eve of the expulsion he was the Head of the Yeshiva of Lisbon.
New leather binding. Thick, quality paper. Age stains. The book was artistically restored and a number of cut pages were repaired, as were various other defects (missing text was not replaced). Moderate condition.
Very rare. Among books of Tehilim from this period – the first generation after the expulsion from Spain – only a few such books are known of anywhere in the world.
Ginzei Yisrael – Mehlman Collection, No. 69, is an incomplete copy. The Israel National Library does not have a complete copy.
