Parshat Derachim. Venice, 1743. With Signatures of Renowned Rabbis, and Important Glosses.

Parshat Derachim - twenty-six sermons, concluding with the compilation 'Derech Mitzvotecha' on the mitzvah count by Rabbi Yehudah Rosanes, author of Mishneh LaMelech. Venice, 1743. Pedigree copy.

The book before us belonged to several renowned rabbis, and in addition, there are also several scholarly glosses handwritten by:

* Rabbi Ya'akov Ginsberg of Prague, author of Zera Ya'akov: The top of the title page bears an owner's notation [cropped] with the signature: "הק' יעקב ג"ב" and on the final leaf, another notation by the same owner: "ועד יעלה מן הארץ שהספר הלז שייך להנעלה ר' יעקב ג"ב." Rabbi Ya'akov Ginsberg,  author of Zera Ya'akov, was one of the leading sages of Prague, a dayan in the Noda BiYehudah's beit din and a rosh yeshivah in Prague for over 40 years. He passed away c. 1698.

* Rabbi Aharon Yosef Shmuel Segal, Av Beit Din of Trentshin: The title page and the following leaf bear signatures: "יוסף שמואל סג"ל בהגאון מוהר"י... נ"י אונ"ד", "הק' יוסף שמואל סג"ל". Rabbi Aharon Yosef Shmuel Segal, Av Beit Din of Trentshin, was born in 1806 and studied under the Chatam Sofer, as well as under the 'Shemen Rokeach.' He later married the Shemen Rokeach's granddaughter, a daughter of Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Lowe, author of Sha'arei Torah. He was rabbinically ordained by the Chatam Sofer (refer to HeChatam Sofer V'Talmidav pp. 53-55).

* Rabbi Kalev Feivel Schlesinger: Signatures on the title page and the following leaf. Rabbi Kalev Feivel [1828-1911] was a son-in-law of Rabbi Aharon Yosef Shmuel Segal, Av Beit Din of Trentshin, and one of the most prominent disciples of the Ktav Sofer. He authored Torat Bar Nash.
