'Simchat Levav.' Shklov, 1803. First edition. Rare.
Sefer Chovot HaLevavot by Rabbeinu Bachye, with a new commentary called "Pat Lechem" by Rabbi Chaim Avraham son of Rabbi Aryeh Leib Katz, of Ohilov, Russia, close to Shklov. First edition. Rare.
6, 127, 122-130; 92 pages. 20 cm. Greenish paper. On the title page is an ownership signature: Moshe Ruzin Stein of Berdichev.
The book Chovot HaLevavot, which was translated from Arabic to Hebrew, is written in scientific language and grammar that not everyone is familiar with, and therefore there is a need for the commentator's work. This book was very widely accepted, and became one of the basic commentaries on Chovot HaLevavot. This first edition, in its entirety, is very rare.
Old leather cover with gold embossing. Professional restoration on the edges of the title page and the following page. A few moth holes, most in the margins. Fine condition.
