Diploma for completion of art studies of Bezalel artist Joseph Budko, Berlin Academy of Arts, 1913/14.
[1] stiff, doubled leaf. 29.5x19.5 cm. Official printed diploma with handwritten information, the principal's signature and the stamp of the Royal Museum of Berlin. Printed signature and stamp. According to the date, July 1, 1914, Budko was 26 years old when he received this diploma. Soon after he finished these studies, he started working on his Passover haggadot.
Joseph Budko (1888-1940) was born in Plonsk, Poland. He studied art from the noted artist Hermann Struck and according to this diploma, completed studies in the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin. After his studies in Berlin, he started working with woodcuts and Jewish illustrations with motifs related to the Diaspora and the Bible. In 1933, he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and became the administrator of "Bezalel HaChadash" after the death of Boris Schatz.
