Rabbi Efraim Zalman Halperin (1871-1961) was a Hasidic rabbi in Denver, New York, and after his immigration to Israel he founded the National Center for Family Purity. In the 1950s he founded the National Center for Family Purity, in order to establish mikvehs in the communities of Israel and to spread the importance of the subject of family purity. He turned to Rabbi Dov Berish Weidenfeld of Tshebin to serve as the organization's president. Later Rabbi Yechezkel Abramsky and Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach served as President. The Chazon Ish very much supported the organization and recommended in a letter to the philanthropists to donate to Rabbi Halperin, who "has worked faithfully to build mikvehs in our Holy Land."
