Sermons, eulogies, prose, and fors for various deeds and Halachic documents, in one large volume, handwritten by Rabbi Shlomo Vaknin of Tveriah.
Rabbi Shimon Vaknin (1881-1964) – Charity collector and Dayan in Tveriah. Born in Demnat, Morocco to his father, Rabbi David Vaknin. Immigrated to Eretz Yisrael in his childhood. Studied Torah diligently and was a disciple and son-in-law of the Kabbalistic Ḥacham, Rabbi Avraham Abiḥzeira, son of the ‘Abir Yaakov’. During WWI they were deported to Egypt by the Ottoman regime, due to their being foreign nationals. Rabbi Vaknin was sent to North Africa as a charity collector for the Kollelim of Rabbi Meir Ba’al HaNes and the Western Community of Yerushalayim. He published his father’s Seforim, ‘Yalkut David’ on the Sefer ‘Meir Bat Ayin’ (1922), to which he added his own work ‘Yalkut Ben David’. Together with his brother, he published their father’s Sefer ‘Vayedaber David’ (1927). Author of ‘Doresh Semuchim’ on the Torah (1933), ‘Na’eh Doresh’ (1956), ‘Davar HaShaveh’ (1958), and ‘Emek HaShaveh’ on Nevi’im and Ketuvim (not published). His Seforim received significant approbations from the Gedolim of his generation. His brother, the Mekubal Rabbi Yaakov Vaknin, was vice-president of the Killelim of Rabbi Meir Ba’al HaNes and vice-Raavad of Tveriah, and his brother, Rabbi Meir Vaknin was Chief Rabbi and Raavad of Tveriah.
Approx. [200] pages. Handsome, half-Solitreo handwriting. This volume has two additional pages attached:
✵ [1] folded pg. 27 lines, 20x13cm. With a manuscript of a draft of a sermon for the month of Av and great mourning.
✵ Signed document, given to Rabbi Shimon Vaknin by Rabbi Yisrael Vaknin and another Rabbi, dated the month of Elul, 1910.
Worn, partially dismantled half-leather binding. Stains. Tears on a few sheets. Fair-good condition.
