"Jews from Karlsbad". Terra Cotta (Rough Clay), Bohemia ca. 1900

The figures of three Jews sitting on a bench and talking; this is a late version of the well-known motif of rural Jews in bench talks.

Terra Cotta ('cooked earth' in Italian) is a unique name given to a certain type of rough, flexible and porous clay as well as to utensils, sculptures and structural elements (tiles, bricks and roof tiles) made of the fired substance.
