Rare Edition: Chamisha Chumshei Torah with Megillot and Haftarot – Signed by Rabbi Yechiel Foa Gis, the Ram"a from Pano. Amsterdam, 1679-1680. Miniature.
Before us is a rare edition of the Chamisha Chumshei Torah with Megillot and Haftarot, printed in Amsterdam. The Chumash and five Megillot are printed line-by-line (and the Book of Genesis-Leviticus is also page-by-page) according to the Amsterdam edition of 1661. At the end of the Chumash (pages 241b-245a), the following additions were made: "Summation of the verses of Deuteronomy... Summation of the verses of the five Chumashim... Table of Torah readings for the holidays... The subject of the Torah portions and their compilation and separation... Names of the cantillation marks of the Torah according to the Sephardim ... The Italian Ashkenazim ...."

Leaf 371-1 (in the last tract) was rearranged and leaves 2-5 were added: "A new song renewed for the beginning of months... and it serves as a guide to the calendar, determining the appointed times of the Holidays... and the days of Rosh Chodesh in the entire year, progressing in the form of a song... the work of Shlomo di Oliviera."

1. "Aleh Moa'dei Mikra'ei Kodesh ." A song in eight stanzas, beginning: DaTishrei Rosh Hashanah, ve'Da Tzom Gedaliah." Otzar HaShira VeHapiyyut, vol. 2, p. 111, no. 301.
2. "VeHayu LeOtot...." A table of the set years 5440-5490.
3. "Bchur Derech Deat Boreh." A song in fourteen stanzas about the signs of the set years for simple and leap years, with an explanation.
4. "Shir LeYom Shealt Geshamim..." Opening: Va'ad Zemer Etzel Gani.
5. "VeAl HaChatum Shmi Chatum..." A four-line song. Solomon Di Olyeira.

With a separate title pages for the Chumashim and an additional title page for the Haftarot. In addition, a special and beautiful color frontispiece for the Chumashim with illustrations of Moses, Aaron, the Ark of the Covenant, and above it the Giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. A total of 3 title pages. Each book of the Chumash and Megillah also has beautiful colored illustrations of angels.

On the title page of each book of the Chumash, there is a record ownership in the handwriting of "Yechiel Foa… In Amsterdam in the year [1723]". It seems to be Rabbi Yechiel Fao from Reggio, the brother-in-law of the Ram'ah from Fano, and the son-in-law of Rabbi Natan Shapira from Jerusalem.

Amsterdam, 1679-1680. Printed by Uri Feibush son of Aharon HaLevi.
According to the title pages of the Chumashim, they were printed in 1679, but before the colophon, they were printed in the year "Nafshi" = 1680. The year on the title page of the Haftarot is 5440 [1680].

[1], 120, 120-131, 133-149, 160-250, 239-371, [5] leaves. 11 cm (miniature). Good condition. Antique leather binding with clasp.

This edition is extremely rare and has not appeared in public sales. In the same year, another edition was printed without the additions at the end and without the illustrated title page. Before us is the complete and rare edition!
