Neve Shalom. Constatinople, 1538-1539. First Edition. Fundamental Book.
Particularly beautiful and complete copy From the exclusive and famed Valmadonna Library.

Neve Shalom is a philosophical composition dealing with topics of faith, Kabbalah, nature, greatness of the Torah, prophecy, and animal sacrifices. In his book, the author, Rabbi Avraham Shalom authenticates Jewish religion in face of the opposing Greek and Arabic philosophy.

Rabbi Avraham son of Yitzchak Shalom was one of Spain’s great sages, a philosopher and expert in science. He passed away in 1492, the year of the Spanish Expulsion.
The last page features a colophon: “And its completion was on Friday 13th day of Sivan, year five thousand and two hundred and ninety and nine years since the creation of the world.”

This copy is originally from the Valmadonna Trust Library, established by Jack Lunzer in the 1950’s. The Library was named Valmadonna after a small village next to Alexandria, North-West Italy. The Lunzer family had longstanding ties with this village. This Library comprised a collection of 13,000 printed books, manuscripts in Hebrew and the Hebrew alphabet. The items originated from around the world in general, and Italy in particular. Many items are exceedingly rare and unique, numerous of them dating back to the earliest years of Hebrew printing. Most of its contents were sold by the Library trustees in January 2017 to the Israel National Library.
