Silver Box. Germany, beginning of the 20th C. With an interesting historical inscription from an institution that was eradicated on Kristallnacht.

Dimensions: 10x13.5 cm. Hallmarked.

A lovely silver box made in Germany, apparently at the beginning of the 20th C, elaborately decorated with scrolled foliage and flora in the Rococo style, and featuring small angles.

An interesting Hebrew inscription is inscribed on the underside of the box:
"To our friends with love and friendship!
The teachers of the Riali School in Leipzig"

This Jewish high school was established in 1912 by Rabbi Ephraim Carlebach – uncle of the famous Reb Shlomo Carlebach – and founder of several Orthodox Jewish schools in Germany. The school was destroyed on the night of Kristallnacht. Rabbi Ephraim Carlebach made Aliyah to Eretz Israel in 1936 and passed away shortly thereafter.

An interesting and curious historical piece, testifying to the existence of an important Jewish institution that was eradicated during the Holocaust.
