Buchenwald - The Truth. Paris 1946
LA VERITE SUR BUCHENWALD Ce Soir Press, Paris, 1946. Testimonies of prisoners from the Buchenwald death camp a few months after their release. Accompanied by hard photographs from the Buchenwald camp.
The pamphlet before us came out immediately after the war to protect Paul Marcel [1900-1982], a prisoner of the Buchenwald camp who served in some responsible role in the camp. It contains testimonies of former prisoners and various officials who defend him and describe in their testimony a moral personality that saved many prisoners from death (among them the famous French aircraft manufacturer Marcel Dassault) and never incriminated a man. The importance of the testimonies presented is far broader than Paul's, since the newly released prisoners describe for the first time the death industry of the Buchenwald camp, the camp's daily schedule, the forced labor, the executions, the Death industry, the abuse, the activities in the subcamps, the hanging of prisoners Who were suspected of sabotage or attempted escape from the camp, which was a daily matter in the camp, and more.
In 1927 Paul joined the PCF - the French Communist Party. During World War II he was taken captive by the Nazis, but managed to escape, returned to Paris in 1940 and headed the rebel organization SPFciale, in which an attempt was made to kill Hermann Goering. In November 1941 he was arrested and tortured at the St. Denis police station. He was later transferred to Auschwitz and Buchenwald. His role in the Buchenwald camp is still controversial. Some claim that he was a preferred prisoner and collaborated with the camp commanders, which led to the death of several prisoners.
