Collection of Items – "Jewish Army"
Collection of paper items calling for the establishment of an independent Jewish army, instead of the recruitment of Jewish soldiers from Palestine to the British Army. [Early 1940s]. Hebrew and English.
• Proclamation protesting the intention of the British to prosecute hundreds of soldiers from the Jewish battalions who refuse to wear the emblem of the Palestine Regiment established by the British, which they call a "yellow badge" (1943). • Proclamation arguing against participation in the war as part of the British Army, stating that "if we don't fight for the establishment of a Jewish Army, that will mean we have accepted our status as a dependent 'ethnic group', which, although it helped to overthrow Hitler, has renounced its national aspirations". • Small pamphlet, "There is no justice – There is no fairness – There will be no silence – until There is a Jewish Army!" (Hebrew and English). • English pamphlet, "Why is there no Jewish Army yet?" • Two issues of "The Jewish Soldier", organ of Jewish soldiers for Jewish Army. [Tel Aviv], issue no. 2 (Hebrew and English), December 1942; issue no. 4 (Hebrew), February 1943.
Size and condition vary.
Provenance: The Rimon Family Collection.
