An Antique Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain bowls
On the exterior depicting a court scene and 100 boys carrying a festival dragon. The decoration is in the famille rose colors. On the interior, there is a man holding a sign in Mandarin. The rim of the bowl is gilded and the base is marked with red underglaze TONGZHI mark under the base. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th. Size: h 2 3/8 X d 5. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
