“showing the accounts of credits and debits and activity of the Va’ad of Kollels, Western Eida, in Jerusalem, for a year from Elul 1902 to Elul 1903, booklet #1.” A historic item shedding light on the stressful life of the members of the Old Yishuv, with details about all of the incomes and expenditures relating to donations received from donors in the Diaspora. At the beginning those responsible appeal to donors with an emotional request, listing a long list of tasks and responsibilities that they need money for, and at the end they conclude the document with a repeated appeal: “may your eyes see the names of the poor and the depressed widows helped with your generosity, look and see with your eyes and those of your wives and children, look to heaven and receive a blessing…signed by those with tears in the hearts, Jerusalem, administrators of the Va’ad of the Western Kollels, Jerusalem.” Stamp of the Va’ad, additional stamp by the young Nachman Betito, a secretary.
