Kreiti U'Pleiti, Copy which Belonged to the Author of "Kli Chemdah," with his Handwritten Glosses
Kreiti U'Pleiti, Tiferet Yisrael, by Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschֳutz. Warsaw, 1878. Handwritten glosses by Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki, author of Kli Chemdah.
The title page and the first leaf bear signatures and stamps of Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki, Av Beit Din of Dwart. There are [5] scholarly glosses along the book's leaves, some lengthy, in his handwriting.
Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki [1866-1928] was one of the leaders of Chareidi Jewry and one of the rabbinic leaders of Poland in the generation before the Holocaust. He was one of the founders of Agudat Yisrael and president of Agudat HaRabbanim in Poland. Rabbi Meir Dan was a disciple of the author ofֲ Nefesh Chayah and of Avnei Nezer, and he served as rabbi of Dwart and in the Ostrov-Mazovyetsk rabbinate. He was very active in exposing the fraudulent Talmud Yerushalmi on Seder Kodshim. This forgery initially misled many rabbinic leaders, however the deception was later discovered, inter alia after Rabbi Meir Dan published a composition named Sha'alu Shlom Yerushalayim, in which he demonstrated the fraud. Rabbi Meir Dan is known for his work Kli Chemdah.
