Notes
Michael Thonet (1796 - 1871) - German-Austrian cabinet maker. Was active as an independent cabinetmaker from 1819. In the 1830s, Thonet began trying to make furniture out of glued and steam-bent wooden slats. After decorating the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna, Thonet founded the "Gebrüder Thonet" firm, which employed thousands of employees and enhanced production methods to produce furniture industrially and won numerous prizes at world fairs.
