Letter on postcard from Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler. This postcard has an interesting signature in Hebrew – Eliyahu Eliezer Ra"v Kata"n – lit. "small rabbi". Margate, England, 1935.
Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler (1895-1954), disciple of Kelm yeshiva, son-in-law of Rabbi Nachum Ze'ev Ziv of Kelm. He arrived in England in 1927, and served as Rabbi for several years in Dalston, London. In the holocaust years, he was among the founders of Kollel HaRabanim in Gateshead, and of the pioneers and builders of Torah study in England. In 1949 he came to Bnei Brak to fill the position of spiritual dean in Ponivezh yeshiva, a position which he held until his passing in 1954. His deep discourses, founded on mussar, kabbala, and chasidut, were printed by his students as "Sichot U-Ma'amarim", five volumes of "Michtav MeEliyahu", and "Sefer HaZikaron Michtav MeEliyahu".
The letter was sent to his relative, Mr. A. A. Skolsky of Vilna, who was also named Eliyahu Eliezer. This relative was one of the people who helped him when he arrived in London and worked to secure him the position in the rabbinate.
Letter with interesting content.
Postcard, 9x14 cm. Very good condition. On the other side of the postcard there is a picture of a hotel.
