Levush Ohr Yekarot; Levush Eder HaYakar; Levush Pinat Yikrat. 3 Sections. Lublin, 1595. Rare First Edition. Pedigree Copy
Thick volume containing three of the compositions by Rabbi Mordechai Jaffe, author of Levush. First edition printed by the author in his lifetime. Separate title pages for each of the three sections. All three sections are rare and in demand.
* Levushei Ohr Yekarot. Kabbalah, elucidation of Recanati's commentary on the Torah by Rabbi Mordechai Jaffe.
Ohr Yekarot is the tenth "Levush" of the ten Levushei Malchut authored by Rabbi Mordechai Jaffe. According to what is written on the back of the title page, this section was printed before the ninth and eighth sections. In the headings of the pages, the composition is entitled Ohr Yekarot. However, in his introduction, the author refers to it as Even HaYekarah. In addition, the introduction contains an apology by the author for printing kabbalistic matters.
[2], 191 [should be 190] leaves, mispaginated.
* Levush Eder HaYakar. "Ninth 'Levush' of the book Levush Malchut ... includes the wisdom of astronomy and the pathways of the stars ... with pictures." This composition is a comprehensive elucidation on the laws of sanctification of the new month by the Ramba"m, with dozens of sketches. Accompanying it (at the end of the volume), is the author's compilation "Beurei Tzurat HaAretz," an elucidation on Sefer Tzurat HaAretz by Rabbi Avraham B'Rabi Chiyya.
30; 5 leaves. The title page of Beurei Tzurat HaAretz is missing.
* Levush Pinat Yikrat. The eighth Levush of Levushei Hamalchut. Commentary on the book Moreh Nevuchim by the Ramba"m.
30 leaves. 29 cm. Ginzei Yisrael - Mehlman Collection, 829.
Rabbinical owners' signatures and stamps appear at the beginnings of the books and within them: Rabbi Ya'akov David Biderman; Rabbi Yekutiel Zalman of Risha; the youth Tzvi Hirsch (?) Shapira of Apta presently in Vielipoli, and more. In addition, on the margins of the leaves, many important glosses, especially those in Rabbi David Biderman's handwriting. For example (Ohr Yekarot, 68a): "This secret has been revealed to me in a dream, a woman is not acquired in exchange (אין אשה נקנית בחליפין...)." His signature appears at the margins of the gloss "Ya'akov David."
Rabbi Ya'akov Biderman [1806-1863] was the Av Beit Din of Kozhnitz and of Vishogrod. He was related to the Sha"ch and to the Pnei Yehoshua, and was the grandfather of the Admori"m of Gur. He was born to his father Rabbi Yisrael Isser of Mezeritch, who was among the leading disciples of the 'Holy Jew' of Pshischa, was the primary disciple of Rabbi Shlomo Leib of Lentshna and submitted himself to the Admo"r of Kotzk, who treated him with great respect. He served as rabbi in Mezeritch, Kozhnitz and Vishogrod, by whose name he is known. He passed away and was buried in Warsaw. (Refer to: Alfasi, Encyclopedia L'Chassidut B, 260).
Fine condition. Minimal worming perforations. Professional restoration of margins in the first 4 leaves. Slight tear with lack in leaf 74 (Ohr Yekarot). The title page of Beurei Tzurat HaAretz is lacking. New semi-leather binding.
