Sefer Tzuk Ha’Itim, events from the 1648-1649 Khmelnytsky Uprising, [Rabbi Meir Son of Shmuel of Szczebrzeszyn [Shebreshin]. Venice, [1656].
Sefer Tzuk Ha’Itim is the first chronicle printed on the 1648-1649 Khmelnytsky Uprising. As stated on title page of first edition (Krakow, 1650), the author is Rabbi Meir of Szczebrzeszyn [Shebreshin]. The name of the authentic author appears also in the second edition which was printed two years later in Saloniki in 1652. However, in this third edition, the title page lists “The author is the Torah giant… Yehoshua son of the righteous Ga’on… Rabbi David of Lvov”. Beginning of book and preface remain in original form; forgery appears only with replacement of the name of Rabbi Yehoshua of Lvov where name of author is mentioned. As well, changes were made to beginning words of rhymes of the book in order that they correspond to acrostic of name of Rabbi Yehoshua instead of to name of Rabbi Meir –authentic author [see attached material].
