Beit HaBechira by the Me'eri, Tractates Nedarim, Sota and Nazir. Livorno, 1795. One of the earliest printed books of the teachings of Rabbi Menachem the Me'eri.
At the top of the title page is a self-dedication handwritten and signed by Rabbi "Ya'akov ben Rabbi Zalman Pozna" who received the book as "A gift from the important philanthropist Shimon called Wolff Baron von Rothschild" in 1844.
Rabbi Ya'akov Pozna (1772-1849), dayan in Frankfurt am Main, who served in the Beit Din of the author of Hafla'a and his son, author of Machane Levi. Son of Rabbi Yekutiel Zalman Pozna dayan in Offenbach and Rabbi of Friedberg (died in 1773). His son is Rabbi Eliezer Pozna Rabbi of the Klaus Association in Frankfurt am Main (1803-1866) and his grandson is Rabbi Gershon Pozna who served for 50 year as dayan in Frankfurt. The dynasty of the Posen family that began with Ashkenaz leaders continues until today, and his descendants serve even today as rabbis in Eretz Yisrael, the USA and Europe.
At Rabbi Ya'akov Pozna's funeral, the community committee of Frankfurt became involved and refused to allow rabbis who fought the Reform movement eulogize him in the cemetery. Hence, the Posen family initiated the establishment of the independent Charedi community of Rabbi Shimshon Rafael Hirsh in the city. This step was financed by Baron Wolff Rothschild who was a G-d-fearing Jew and one of the most respected members of the Frankfurt am Main community.
