Extraordinary photograph of Rabbi Yitzhak Yeruham Diskin, son of Rabbi Yehoshua Leib. Jerusalem. Original photograph by photographer Tzadok Bassan, stamped with his ink-stamp. This picture was taken between 1910-1920.
The great Rabbi Y. Y. Diskin was born in 1845. He learned under his father and in the Volozhin Yeshiva. Even at young age he was considered among the prodigies of the generation. He did not want to accept a position as rabbi, although many communities appealed to him. Approximately ten years after his father's death in 1908, he came to Jerusalem and became head of the Ohel Moshe yeshiva and the orphanage founded by his father. He was leader of Ultra Orthodox Jewry in Jerusalem together with Rabbi Hayim Berlin, and founded the "Eda Ha-Haredit", however as he did not wish to serve as rabbi he appointed Rabbi Yosef Hayim Sonnenfeld as its rabbi. Died in Jerusalem in 1925.
16x23 cm. Mat sized 28x33.5 cm. Excellent condition.
