The firm was founded in Frankfurt in 1869 by Brandina Wetzler, widow of Lazarus Jacob Posen, a goldsmith and retailer of Polish origin. Under the patronage of the widow Posen, the firm became the largest Judaica supplier in the late 19th century.
In 1938 the company was forcibly shut down and looted on Kristallnacht (the broken glass night - November Pogrom
