Maarechet HaElokut, faith, Kabbalah and Jewish philosophy, attributed to R. Peretz son of Yitzchak of Gerona, with the commentary by R. Yehuda Chayat and "Perush Zulato" (another's commentary). Mantua: Meir son of Efraim of Padua and Jacob son of Naftali HaKohen of Gazzolo, Rosh Chodesh Adar II, 1558. This edition was printed four months following the printing of the first edition in Ferrara, Cheshvan, 1557. The difference between the two editions lies in the second commentary - "Perush Zulato", which in the first edition was printed under the title of "Commentary of the Unknown Author". In this edition, many passages of the commentary which were based on Greek philosophy were omitted, while numerous passages of commentaries from other authors were inserted. The proofreader of the Mantua edition, R. Emmanuel Benevento, alludes to this in his foreword "You will not find in it the views of Aristotle and his disciples, nor any thoughts from gentiles…". Various signatures from Yemenite Jews, residing in Yemen, Aden and Bombay, dated 1858-1888, and lengthy, substantial glosses (most are trimmed). 4, 208 leaves. 18 cm. High-quality paper, good-fair condition. Many stains. Wear and worming to last leaves. Damage to title page, repaired. Rubbed leather binding.
