The Maternity Medal was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 8, 1944. It has two degrees. Maternity Medal I and II degree for awarding mothers who gave birth and raised:
five children - a medal of II degree;
six children - medal I degree.
