Hilchot Yom Tov. Mahari"t Algazi. Personal Copy of Rabbi Chaim Nissim Abulafiah, with his Signature and a Lengthy Gloss by him

Hilchot Yom Tov - Hilchot Bechorot L'Ramban, with an elucidation by Rabbi Yom Tov Algazi [Mahari"t Algazi]. Leghorn, [1794]. First edition. Pedigreed copy. First edition of Hilchot Bechorot L'Ramban, with the commentary of Mahari"t Algazi.

Rabbi Yom Tov Algazi [1727-1802] was the Rishon L'Tzion, one of the most prominent Torah personalities of his time, a colleague of the Chid"a's. He is especially known by this book. Today this work is printed in most editions of the Babylonian Talmud with the Ri"f. He found the Chid"a's manuscript when he was on a fundraising mission.

The title page bears the signature הצעיר חנ"א. This is the signature of Rabbi Chaim Nissim Abulafiah of Tiberias, who received this book as a gift from Rabbi Aharon Alchadif, rabbi of Tiberias. The book was later passed on to his grandson, Rabbi Yitzchak Moshe Abulafiah. Leaf 10 has a lengthy gloss, apparently written by him.

The signatory, Rabbi Chaim Nissim Abulafiah, was the leader of the Jewish community in Tiberias, and then rabbi of the city. He broke his leg during the earthquake of 1834 and then moved to Jerusalem. He later served as Rishon L'Tzion and passed away in 1861.

[3], 204, 7, [1] leaf. 29 cm.

Fine condition. Minimal worming holes.
