Holy of Holies! A Touching, Tear-Filled Prayer Handwritten by Its Author Rabbi Natan of Breslov – from the Book "Likutei Tefilot" – "May I Merit to Experience True Joy" – an Exceptional Item!
A prayer handwritten by Rabbi Natan of Breslov, which he wrote with the tears of his heart during his seclusion. A holy, lofty item, full of liveliness and vitality from the deepest parts of the soul of one of the greatest Tzaddikim of the previous generations.
His Rabb, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, who said of himself that "all that interests me is prayer" taught him: "When you hear words of Torah from a true Tzaddik, you should turn them into a prayer, that is, pray a beg God to merit saying such things too". "And this prayer ascends to a very high place, especially when Torah is turned into a prayer, there is great delight in Heaven".
Ever since, Rabbi Natan would observe this and during his seclusion would pray to follow his rabbi's advice. And he would write down these prayers, his warm tears staining the paper.
Over time, Rabbi Natan wrote dozens of prayers and in circa 1814, gathered them in a book titled "Likutei Tefilot" (An anthology of Prayers) which includes prayers for practically all the thoughts he had heard from his rabbi, which he had gathered an dedited in the book "Likutei Moharan".
The Breslov Hassidim attach additional meaning to these prayers considering them the most basic and important commentary on the book 'Likutei Moharan' since they were written by Rabbi Nachman's leading disciple.
After writing the prayers, Rabbi Natan copied them twice again so that "I could say them again another time. And then I saw it is good to copy them in general language so that other people could say them and I will not prevent good from people … and when I copied them and gave them to a few people, it greatly pleased them and they implored me to copy all of them…"
Since then, these holy prayers are said daily by thousands of Jews. The book 'Likutei Tefilot', which was printed in dozens of editions, was unprecedentedly received by Jews, beside the prayers instituted by the members of the Great Assembly (Knesset Ha'Gedolah). Rabbis and Tzaddikim of all circles praised and glorified the book as suitable for everyone and every person can find himself in it wherever he is. Many well-known rabbis, including Rabbi Chaim of Sanz author of 'Divrei Chaim', Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov, Rabbi Shmuel Heller, Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook, the Rebbe Rabbi Aharon Rosenfeld of Pinsk-Karlin and many more, who would pray from the book 'Likuteu Tefilot'.
The book is considered the most basic book of the Breslov Hassidim after the book 'Likutei Moharan' and it is also the most distributed book of the Breslov books. Rabbi Natan, as the leading disciple of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, is the one who revived the Breslov Hassidism and reestablished it after Rabbi Nachman's death. Only because of him we still have the holy, exceptional Torah of Rabbi Nachman of breslov.
Description of the manuscript
Before us is a prayer that was printed in Siman 10 of the second section of the book 'Likutei Tefilot'. It is based on the tenth Torah of Likutei Moharan Tanina which speaks about moderation that leads to freedom and joy.
The leaf begins in the middle of the prayer with the word: "[we have no wisdom] how to speak and conduct ourselves in a temporary world, to think about our true eternal purpose…"
Then Rabbi Natan praises God and refers to the most basic concepts of the Breslov doctrine: the true Tzaddik (Rabbi Nachman of Breslov), joy, the Jewish point, becoming close to the Tzaddik, God's pride in every Jew and more.
On the reverse side of the leaf, Rabbi Natan requests:
"… may you have mercy on me and grace me [to be joyful always] and find in myself good aspects … since you know that even the worst in Israel, the inner intention of all his good deeds is for your name only truly and even the criminals of Israel are full of Mitzvot as a pomegranate and you take pride and delight in every good movement of the most inferior in Israel".
Words of revival and speaking positively about every Jew handwritten by Rabbi Natan of Breslov! A wonderful Segulah for repentance!
As is well-known, one of the principles of Rabbi Nachman's doctrine is that man search for the good aspects he has and thus revive himself, be joyful, awaken for prayer and repent.
This important matter of "finding good aspects" is the center of the prayer before us. Rabbi Nachman "had warned to adhere to this doctrine" of finding good aspects since it is "the essence of getting closer to God".
29 lines written on the first page; 28 lines on the second page.
A unique, impressive and touching item. The margins of the leaf are worn due to the many years that had passed since the manuscript was written, with an omission of several words that were written on the margins. The omissions were professionally restored. Stains of tears can be seen of the leaf. The leaf was folded into four, maybe by Rabbi Natan himself, in order to put it in his pocket. There are a few erasures in his handwriting (the printed version is according to the corrections).
17x21 cm.
The leaf is in an impressive leather binding.
