WWII Belgian Free Forces: bronze officers' field cap badge of the 1st Battalion Belgian Fusiliers in UK. This was first "free" Belgian Army unit created after fall of Belgium (May 1940); est. Tenby Wales, Oct. '40; attached to 36th Br. Infantry Brigade (Mar-Nov. '41); operational Sept. 1942 (in 49th West Riding Div.); disbanded Jan '43 & integrated into 1st Belgian Independent Group. Badge is one of 3 types of 'ramping' lion emblems worn by 1st Bn - others: silver (NCOs) & brass (privates). Instituted Oct. 1940 & worn initially on left side of field cap; in Dec. worn on top of Belgian tri-color strip; from May 1941 on, as initially worn. Scalloped reverse; one soldiered pronged hook at back & possibly 2nd, now missing; not maker-marked. Rare.
