Jordan: Wisam al-Iqdam al-‘Askari / Order of Military Gallantry, circa. 1946-51, in silvered bronze; not maker-marked; size (medallion): 19.5mm; thickness: 2mm; weight: 9.6g. Obv.: left facing King Abdullah; Arabic leg. "Abdullah ibn al-Hussein / King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan". Rev.: Al-Aqsa Mosque (Jerusalem); leg. in exergue "Wisam al-Ikdam al-Askari" (Order of Military Gallantry). Medal instituted by the King in 1946 & initially awarded to all ranks of the Arab Legion for displaying the highest gallantry under fire; later expanded to a general decoration for the highest gallantry - also awarded posthuously. Medal suspended by ring & attached to a metal base looped by a green-white-yellow ribbon.
