The book Mesilat Yesharim, by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (1707-1746), which belonged to Israel's fifth prime minister, Yitzchak Rabin.
In 1977, during his first term as prime minister, Rabin visited 'Or Sameach' Yeshiva (for the newly religious). The students of the Yeshiva gave him this book as a gift. The book is an ethical text dealing with perfection of one's character according to the Torah. On the first page of the book, the students wrote a dedication to the prime minister.
Although Rabin did not conduct a religious lifestyle, he kept the book in his library. He ultimately gave the book as a present to his friend Rehavam Ze'evi ('Gandhi', 1926-2001, a major-general in the Israeli army and a politician, assassinated by Palestinian terrorists), who had a deep attachment to Jewish tradition and was the owner of a huge library with unique and rare books. Gandhi added the book to his library. After his death, his widow sold many of his books, including this one, to a bookshop in Tel Aviv.
The first page of the book includes the dedication by the Or Sameach students.
Included is a signed document attesting to all the above.
Yitzchak Rabin (1922-1995), a member of the Palmach and Hagana organizations, was the seventh Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, commanding the army during the Six Day War, the fifth Israeli prime minister, and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Excellent condition.
Extraordinary!
