Never appeared at auction: letter handwritten and signed by the Admor Rabbi Yisrael Aryeh of Skelivka (Przmyslan). New York 1937

Letter on official letterhead, handwritten and signed by the Admor Rabbi Yisrael Aryeh Leib of Skelivka-New York, from “Wednesday of Parshat Ekev, 1937, here in New York”. Rare letter—never seen at auction before. Sent to leaders of the old Jerusalem institution the “Talmud Torah and Yeshiva Chayei Olam”, in which he informs them that he received a check on their behalf for $7.10 from a generous woman and he asked that a receipt be sent for her. He signs with blessings. 21.5x21cm. Filing holes, overall good condition.

The Admor Rabbi Yisrael Aryeh Leib of Skelivka, successor of his father the Admor Rabbi Baruch of Skelivka, had great yichus: on his father’s side he was grandson of the Admor Rabbi Meir of Przmyslan, Rabbi Naftali Zvi Horowitz of Rofshitz, the author of the Degel Machaneh Ephraim, and through him to the Baal Shem Tov. He was born in Skelivka (Poland). From his youth he began to study Torah together with his father. He married the daughter of Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Shtikled (Av Beit Din of Kolikov). He served as Admor in Lviv (Ukraine), then moved to the US and in 1931 began to serve as Admor in New York and rabbi of the Yismach Yisrael synagogue. He died in 1961/2.
