Holy of holies: Chiddushei Torah handwritten by Maran the Chatam Sofer
A leaf of paper written on both sides by Rabbeinu Moshe Sofer of Pressburg, the Chatam Sofer.
The writing includes chiddushei Torah handwritten by the Chatam Sofer, with the note at the top of the page: “B’ezrat Hashem Ye’ush Koneh”. Long lines handwritten by one of the leaders of Ashkenaz Jewry, pilpul and harifut as was his method. [printed later in Chiddushei Chatam Sofer for Masechet Gittin, leaf 55, amud alef; begins in the middle of the opening piece at “ee koneh Miderabbanan aino yachol”, ends with the paragraph “Min HaTorah MiTa’am Shinui HaShem”].
Size: 23.5x9cm. Light stains, overall good condition.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity by the expert Rabbi Yitzhak Yeshayahu Weiss, rabbi and Av Beit Din of Achiezer Bnei Brak.
Regarding the holiness of the Chatam Sofer’s handwriting: It is accepted in the name of Rabbi Mordechai Bennett of Nicklasburg, a friend and colleague of the Chatam Sofer, that he would review the halachic tshuvot of the Chatam Sofer a number of times, not because he didn’t understand, but because looking at the handwriting of the sage is a segula for yirat shamayim. Also mentioned by Rabbi Yoel of Satmar and Rabbi Yosef Naftali Stern.
