An important letter from the leaders of the Haredi community in Jerusalem, headed by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, to the Badatz Istanbul, regarding the kosher status of fish coming from Turkey to Eretz Israel

"And surely they have already clarified for themselves all the need for these matters. And will do kindness with the fearful inhabitants of the Holy City" - an important letter signed by the leaders of the Haredi community Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, Rabbi Pinchas Epstein, and Rabbi David Halevi Jungreiss, which was sent to the BDZ of Istanbul in Turkey, to inquire about the kosherness of the lakerda and tuna fish. In their letter, the Gaba'd and the Raba'd appeal to the Badat'z Istanbul to inquire about the kosher of the lakerda and tuna fish that arrive in barrels and boxes to Eretz Israel. Fears arose that these fish, although fortified to kosher, may have been mixed with pieces of impure fish. Regarding the tuna, the geniuses ask that it is not clear to them at all if it is a kosher fish. The geniuses of Jerusalem relied in this decision on the opinion of Badat'z Istanbul, which is close to the areas where these fish are grown, and knows closely the way they are packaged and brought to Eretz Israel, as they explained in their letter: "And surely they have already clarified for themselves all the need for these matters.
